About India Post:
India Post is the official postal system of India, operated by the Department of Post under the Ministry of Communications. Commonly known as the Post Office, it is the world’s largest postal network. The postal service in India was started by Warren Hastings under the East India Company in 1766. It was initially called “Company Mail” and was later restructured as a service under the Crown in 1854 by Lord Dalhousie. This change brought uniform postage rates and led to the India Post Office Act 1854, which improved upon the 1837 Post Office Act and introduced regular post offices across India. The position of Director General of Post for the entire country was also established.
